For almost thirty years, Stan Ries recorded the Towers and their relationship to the profile and urban fabric of our city. At all hours and from myriad perspectives, he captured what the Towers have meant to us, both visually and symbolically. Audacious, yet austere, awkward and mundane to some, yet elegant and inspiring to others, the Towers were destined to be hyperbole-made-real: improbably huge in both life and death.

On the anniversary of their destruction, we are honored to be able to share with you the thoughts of six eminent architects as they reflect on what the Towers were, and what they were not; what they brought to New York City, and what we have no more.
